Preferred Vendor Status

2001Licensed Properties Product Design Experience

ID badge given to me.

While working as a graphic artist at Antioch Publishing, I formatted many popularly known entertainment properties. Star Wars was one. The designs I created with there licensed images earned Antioch Publishing Preferred Vendor status by Lucas Films.

As further recognition of a job well done we were invited to a tour of Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, CA. Jean Rudegeair my boss/Art Director knew I would be over-the-moon since I was 12 years old.

Marna Henley (our Licensing Director) and I flew out to LA. Rented an SUV and drove across the Gold Gate Bridge to Marin County, Nicasio, CA. Skywalker ranch is nestled into a vast, rolling hillside in northern Marin County. The iconic creative center's main house is a sweeping, three-story Victorian. The campus-like complex is on 2,000 acres. Offices for writers and editors, studios and theaters for filmmaking experimentation and post-production.

I wish I had taken photos. I only have memories. What made this tour special was that it was given by George's personal assistant since the usual guide was unavailable that day. It would be for Marna and I. No one else was with us. I am writing this twenty-two years later. I wish I could remember her name but can only remember what she looked like. She was beautiful and wore sheath dress on her small frame.

Other strong memories are seeing Indiana's hat and whip, THX1138 the license plate and the original painting by Maxfield Parrish, The Waterfall.
