Watercolor Wednesday Workshops (16+)

Description

Learning exercises that teach us how to "collaborate" with the water rather than fighting it. These exercises are designed to help us observe the physical behavior of the medium in a low-pressure way.

Goal: Understanding timing and drying stages. Understanding terminology used in watercolor painting. See workshop Beginner 101 for glossary of techniques.

Focus

Overview of materials and setup.
Learn variations in pigment saturation, brushstroke shapes, and by observing drying time to achieve specific marks.
Techniques are important because they grant you the ability to make a clean painting, enjoyable to look at.

Workshop Exercises

Identify Techniques: Count how many different techniques you see in the sample paintings brought by me.
Employ: Execute as many as you can in your own painting.

Materials Visual

To get started you will need a set of brushes, one paper block and one set of watercolors.

We can supply you with the sundries as supplies last.

We will supply water containers and ceramic palettes.

Amazon has a deal for 2-10" x 4.7" rectangle trays for $20. Or plate with no decoration from a thrift store works too. I use an enamel tray.

4H graphite pencil or light gray watercolor pencil

Any 12 inch ruler.
Palette knife or kitchen butter knife to release paper from the block.
Olive Oil, bar soap, or The Master's Brush Artist soap bar $5 (HL). While Master's Brush soap will get oil paint out of your clothes, it costs more than a bar of Olive Oil soap. I find the Kiss My Face brand at the local health food store on Park Avenue.
